A Different Kind of Hero is a children’s book and educational programme helping primary school children understand organ donation, kidney health and the life-saving impact of living kidney donation.
Created by Shade 7 Publishing in collaboration with the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) Community Grants Programme, the initiative provides FREE books, FREE in person and virtual storytelling workshops and FREE downloadable teaching resources for schools and community groups across the UK.
Through an engaging and child-friendly story, children learn about empathy, family, kindness and what it truly means to be a hero.
Free Books, Workshops & Teaching Resources for Schools
Schools, educators and community groups can take part in the programme and receive:
Free children’s books
Physical copies of A Different Kind of Hero gifted to pupils.
Free virtual storytelling workshops
Interactive online book readings featuring special guests and real-life stories about living kidney donation.
Child-friendly Q&A sessions
Children can ask questions about how kidneys work, organ donation and how helping others can save lives.
Free downloadable classroom resources
Supporting materials designed for PSHE, health education and science lessons.
These sessions are designed to introduce organ donation awareness for children in a sensitive and engaging way.
