7 Reasons You & Your Child Will Love “The Story of the Elephant”

  1. Attractive Illustrations, Stimulates Imagination & Evokes Curiosity

All creative illustrations in “The Story of the Elephant” have been beautifully hand-drawn with vibrant shapes and colours that attract children’s attention and stimulate imagination. The pop-ups and interactive flaps add an element of surprise, making children curious and excited to flip through the pages and keep on reading (again and again!). These pop-ups and interactive flaps have also been designed to fit into the storyline and express each scene of the book, bringing the story of Surah Al-Feel to life.

  1. Instills Islamic Values through Fun Storytelling

Young children are curious and excited to absorb information and learn about the world around them. This precious window of learning and development is the optimal time to introduce the Quran through powerful stories. “The Story of the Elephant” is written as a fun story that is easy for children to read and absorb, thus shaping their developing minds with a love for the Quran and instilling character-building values from the Quran, insha’Allah!

  1. Multi-Topic & Multi-sensory Experience for Effective Learning

In addition to imparting upon young readers lessons and character-building values from the Quran, “The Story of the Elephant” also covers multi-topic lessons on geography, history, sociology, and culture. As an interactive book with pop-ups, colouring map, and press-out elephant activity cards, it also provides a multi-sensory experience proven by numerous research to be more effective for learning, comprehension and retention.

  1. Instills a Love for Reading & an Alternative to Television & Tablets

A study by The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, “Zero to Six: Electronic Media in the Lives of Infants, Toddlers and Pre-schoolers” report that 47% of parents observe their 4-6 year olds imitate aggressive behavior from television. This is a scary thought!

“The Story of the Elephant” provides a fun, wholesome and educational alternative to television and tablets. In addition to instilling lessons and character-building values from the Quran, it also instills the love of reading in children so that they are not always seeking entertainment from screen media.

  1. Perfect for Travelling & Car Rides

Lightweight, portable and durable with its hard back high quality gloss finished pages, “The Story of the Elephant” can easily be taken on family holidays or when visiting family, so your child’s storytime or bedtime routine can remain uninterrupted wherever you travel to. Also a perfect way to keep children entertained while learning at the same time during daily commutes and car rides.

  1. Family Bonding over Stories of the Quran

Nothing can replace quality time spent with your child. Reading “The Story of the Elephant” is an interactive, entertaining activity the whole family can enjoy together. Best of all, it opens a platform for children to ask more about the Quran, and becomes a doorway for the whole family to bond over various concepts of Islam such as solah, dua, patience and more.

  1. Lifelong Love, Learning & Guidance

Popular bedtime stories with characters like fairy godmothers and princesses are great for storytelling and imagination, but the magic disappears when children grow up to discover that it’s just fiction. In “The Story of the Elephant”, the magic of Allah’s miracles, the power of dua, the strength of faith, and the introduction into the Quran’s timeless lessons and wisdom will forever remain as TRUTH that guides children for life.

  3. fahad yusuf

Where can i get this book in India and what would be the price?

  4. Aminul Hoque

Alhamdulillah we have had this epic book since it ever first came out. All my children love it mashaAllah but my son it particular who is now 1.5 for the past few months adores it and wants me to read it to him more time than we need pray in a day.

We have a broad range of children’s Islamic books at home but literally it has become a ritual reading this one at least 5 times a day. Is it all the amazing pop-ups and vibrant colours or might it be all my ever-changing special sound effects?

Either way this truly an awesome book and can’t wait to see more similar ones come out inshaAllah..

    Super Cool Dad

  5. Dr Ghaffar

    Dear Shade 7,

Just wanted to congratulate you on your first publication – Story Of The Elephant and Wudu bath toy book. They’re fantastic. My 11 year daughter was reading the pop up book to her 8 year old brother and 3 year old sister when it arrived today. The younger two listened intently and they all loved the pop up illustrations. It was amazing to see the kids engage so well with this in a way that they’ve never enjoyed similar genre booked before. Wonderful job and my family and I wish you all the best success for the future in other projects. God bless you all.

    Kind regards
    Dr Ghaffar

  6. Hajera

SubhanAllah Hajera!!! Whilst dressing my son just now, I said to him let’s learn the names of some prophets. I said ISMAEEL and IBRAHEEM and he goes THAT’S THE ONE WHO MADE THE KABA! and I go to him, who taught you that, he goes THE ELEPHANT BOOK!!!!

  7. Random Bytes From Life

I think this book is just perfect and I will give it a rating of five full stars. Highly recommended for readers of all ages, especially youngsters aged between 6 to 12 years. The best part that we really enjoyed, and my kids roared into laughter, was the time when the great elephant of Abraha did not go ahead as directed, instead it knelt and sat down in front of the Ka’aba! Allah u Akber!

Another feature that my older Beta really enjoyed was the narration of historical events in a brief but complete manner, making him exactly understand the event as it had occurred.

Along with the book, comes a Resource pack that includes a full sized map of Arabia and two cardboard pieces out of which kids could actually cut the elephants and create a model army. I really liked this teaching material as it has come in handy to teach my younger Beta something about the location of Arabia as well!

Little did I know that the book would be full of bright, colorful imagery,Dua’as and verses from the Qura’n with their translations and would include a map of the Arabian Peninsula and an ‘army of elephants’ that my kids could make out of cardboard cards…. all these came as a pleasant surprise for us, Alhamdulillah!

“This book is definitely robust enough for young children. So far it has survived some serious love from my little ones!

‘The Story of the Elephant’ makes teaching this Quranic tale, not only easy, but a really special and memorable experience for children. It has to be my kids’ favorite Islamic Children’s book at the moment.

It is not just a picture book, or a pop-up books, its a whole educational experience. It encourages learning and love for the Quran in a variety of ways and at a variety of levels . We even used it to teach Geography, History, Character building and Islamic history.

I highly recommend this book. We absolutely love it!” For the full blog please visit http://ourmuslimhomeschool.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/book-review-story-of-elephant-pop-up.html?m=1

  10. Tahura Khanom

    Love,love love this book
Absolutely stunning-we adore the popups! I couldn’t wait to order the book and I am so glad I did.It has a permanent home next to our bed-I don’t think it will see the bookshelf in a long time. I’ve had no problems asking the older kids to read it to my 4 yr old who asks for it to to be read to him every night.he has the story memorised. His favourite bit-has to be the popup kaaba in the end of course!! He said”mum I didn’t get to touch the kaaba when i went umrah but now i can!” Looking to give it as presents for little ones upcoming Eid-cant wait.

  11. Marzana Ahmed

I have this book. My children and I really enjoyed this and I learnt a lot from it Alhamdulillah. For all those who are looking for good quality Islanic books for children (and Alhamdulillah there are many now) this is a must have. I hope they make more soon in sha allah.

  12. Mas-oodah

LET ME START BY SAYING THIS REVIEW IS LONG OVERDUE. It has been over a month that I have received my dazzling copy of the most amazing Islamic pop-up book (the first of its kind, Alhamdulillah.) The Story of the Elephant by Hajera Memon. Mind you, I was more excited than my 5 year old daughter for whom I decided to buy the book for. I was literally bouncing up and down in the post office and excitedly ripped open the box when I just received it0 However I had promised only to unwrap this treasure on Eid morning with my princess so I had to painfully wait – fighting the urge to unwrap it every day. It was a long 7 days. I tend to judge any book by the amount of times you want to pick it up and read it, this goes especially for children’s books. If I should be honest this treasure has been our bed time and day time story for this entire month. We are yet to tire from the many beautiful lessons. Her reaction to the entire book and story left me in tears. She absolutely loves every pop-up. She even knows all the words to the story and makes me use different voices for every character. Her birthday request for next year is that I should get her Mahmoud, the biggest bluest elephant in the world although she won’t chain him at all. I extend my congratulations to my dear friend Hajera Memon on such an amazing accolade in having to author this extraordinary book. Jazakallahu khair for bringing this story to life in such a unique way and please let this be the first of many books, Insha Allah. Even the extra-long wait that we went through to receive the work was way worth it. (N.B. I blame that on the postal service in South Africa. Book depository were amazing in trying to assist me in receiving a replacement copy of the book as I had assumed it got lost in the mail somehow after 6 weeks. If ordering from South Africa allow for 8 weeks due to the postal service.) My little princess is very thrilled to have this treasure in her small yet growing library. And I guess I am as well.

  13. Aleeza S

To tell you the truth its work like yours that takes a burden off from shoulders of parents like us who are on the lookout for quality Islamic resources for their children.

  14. Haajra Fareen

I have to admit that I received this book approximately two months ago and my children still haven’t had enough of it. Every time I bring it out, I see their little faces light up with joy. That excitement to learn something new everyday is remarkable.

And this book is definitely going to stay with us for years to come. And I really hope Shade 7 comes with loads of other such fun, interesting and educational books for young minds.

  17. Nusheen

    Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu!

I received my order today, packaged so carefully and I just had to write to say jazakallahu khairan!!!! We love it. It came so quickly, even faster than many things shipped within the US. I was amazed by this beautifully crafted book.

I’m already making plans for more to give as gifts next Eid, inshaa’Allah.

I truly appreciate the care and effort you put in to communicating with me and ensuring that the books arrived on time for Eid. There will be many happy children (and adults) as a result, inshaa’Allah. May Allah swt grant you extra blessings as you did this during Ramadan. I cannot wait for more books from your group. May Allah swt count this as a source of sadaqah jariya for everyone involved.

    Salams,
    Nusheen

  18. Rajeh S

    Assalem aleikum Shade 7 team!
I wanted to say a HUGE thank you for making this book. MashAllah may Allah reward you in what you do!

You really have change his perspective of the Quran Al hamdulillah. May Allah reward you and accept you efforts! Ameen!

  20. Hana

    Assalaamu Alaikum

Just wanted to let you know I received the book today in the mail. I absolutely love it! just ordered another one for a friend. thank you so much.

  21. Sister Rajeh

The work you do is amazing mashAllah and as a mum I feel blessed to find businesses like yours that would make be a Muslims a cool experience for our children.

  22. Salwa Ragbi

Beautifully illustrated and well designed. I got two copies with the offer and 3rd one would be given in charity. My friends little boy loved the book as soon as I opened it, he sat with me and we looked through the pages over and over again. I got a spare one for myself for when I have children Insha Allah. The only down side is that this is not suitable for very small children those 2 and under would rip the moving parts quite easily. So the child must be supervised at all times.
Insha Allah would love to see a similar book that is a board book for very young children. Or even a fabric book.
I will be buying a couple more in future for my new nephew and nieces when they are a little older Insha Allah.
Well done Hajera and Team. I can’t wait to see more similar content in the near future.
    Jazaka Allah khier ☺

  23. Zain Bhikha, Nasheed Artist South Africa

I’m absolutely loving reading this book to my boys! A must-have for families with lovely surprises on every page!

  24. Confessions of a Muslim MOMma-holic

Alright folks, ready for a rave? I rarely do it, but every now and then something comes along that I can’t stop smiling about! This is, hands down, the best children’s Qur’anic storybook we own! Everything about this book is high quality, from the story, to the illustrations, to the quality of the paper. I know this book costs a little more than other Islamic books out there, but I’ll tell you why.. First, it’s a pop-up.. (And by the way the Pop-ups are pretty sturdy).. Secondly, it’s not JUST a book! In the back there are elephants printed on heavy white cardboard, ready for your kids to color and recreate the story of the elephant. Essentially, it’s a book and game all in one.. I am a HUGE supporter of books that help attach our children’s hearts to the Quran, but I’m also a fan of Islamic books that are exceptional.. THIS one is. It was given to us as a gift, and it has since become my go-to gift for others.. Support the sister who created this awesomeness (and read her story because it’s pretty inspiring).. I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with! @shade7_ ‪#‎ramadanwithkids‬ ‪#‎IslamicBooks‬ http://ift.tt/1Ss7Bli

    Beautiful gifts for kids.

  26. Samir C

My children very much enjoyed the book and we ended up giving it to my nephew as a present. He absolutely loves it and talks about it constantly.

  27. Sophia

My cousin received The Story of the Elephant as an Eid gift last year and I must say it is a fantastic gift. The use of imagery and colours are extremely appealing to children as well as the activities provided with the book. The Shade7 edition of The Story of the Elephant is more than just a book it is a learning experience, which helps children learn more about Islam in an engaging, fun and interactive way. Having the book as a popup also adds to the engagement of the book and makes the learning experience more enjoyable. It also helped my cousin develop his ability to read in English as well as his knowledge of Islam. The great thing about the book is that it is not just for Muslim children but is accessible to children from all different backgrounds, which was apparent when my cousin read the book with non-Muslim friends who also really enjoyed reading the book. This really is a beautiful book both in terms of style and content and I would recommend this as a gift for young children of all backgrounds. I’m looking forward to the next book Hajera.

I wanted to buy a gift for my nephew – he is only 4 months old but already he is fascinated with colours and movement. This gift should keep him entertained for many years In shaa Allah – enjoying it’s vibrancy now and being educated through it’s words later.

  31. Sahera Patel

What a wonderful story…I think more of us need to come out of our comfort zone and push ourselves to do something both different and beneficial to society as a whole. Having sought crowdfunding for her initial costs, she has tenaciously pursued sales both in the UK and abroad, run impressive marketing on a shoestring and lined up ambitious future publishing. Hajera is trying to define and drive a whole new market—this is ambitious and innovative publishing.

What a wonderful piece of work. The book is done amazingly well and its very apparent the immense amount of thought and hard work gone into it. My children love the book specially for its interactiveness. it really helps to ignite the imagination of a child. Above all makes story telling easy for the parent 🙂

  50. Sulaiman Ahmed, age 11yrs

I love this book because I like the way the story is described. I enjoy looking at the pop ups and doing the various activities eg. When you pull the tabs. It makes it more fun to read and understand the story. It is a special book that I got from my grandparents for Eid, and it is a book that I can read over and over again!

  51. Bilal Memon

This is truly a revolutionary product. Traditionally, it has been very difficult for non-native Arabic speakers to connect with the Qur’an because of a language barrier. Masha’Allah, the Story of the Elephant has inspired me to connect with the Qur’an on a more deeper level. It takes the Tafsir of Surat Fil and presents it as an engaging story that’s fun to read and easy to understand. I am super grateful to the Shade7 Team for making such an amazing product and helping me learn and understand the Qur’an in a fun and highly addictive manner.

  52. Sabah Azam

Finding a product that sparks the interest of a child is difficult. This book portrays a positive energy around the concept of education. The amazing illustrations, colors and creativity are very engaging! I find myself constantly flipping through the pages with my baby cousins. I can’t wait to see the other products!!! This is the beginning of teaching Islam in an artistic way!

  53. Nazeer

Very good book! My son (7) loves to read it. He’s studying Qu’ran and Islam and knows this story. The pop-up book helps bring this all to life, something which hasn’t been really taken seriously for Islamic picture books. My daughter (5) also enjoys it, in particular the additional activities. Well done on helping bring Islamic stories to life for our children.

  54. Louise Emilia Newman- Rice

My daughter absolutely loves the book and has been reading it over and over again. She has actually said, this is the most precious book she has ever got and would like to hand it down to her own daughter one day! This just goes to show what an impact your book has on children 🙂

  55. mrs A Ahmed

Assalamwalaikum. I have just bought your beautiful book the story of the elephant from my local book shop. It’s such a unique book which is perfect for developing children. As I teacher I quickly chose it as I knew it was very stimulating and interactive. I was wondering/hoping if you are making more books like this? I can’t wait and would love to hear details of upcoming projects.

Jazakallah khair for your efforts and may Allah reward you greatly for giving our children an Islamic alternative that is just as beautiful and inspiring.

  56. Moshiur Rahman

My littlun got her book last week! She may not be able to read yet (or talk) but she loved the bright colours and pop-up images. Even the adults were excited to see it and learn about the story from Surah Fil.

A big thank you to Shade 7 Limited and to Hajera for your generosity and hard work in creating the title – look forward to seeing many more in the future inshaAllah!

  57. Razeena – READ Little Muslims

This review was posted on http://www.facebook.com/readlittlemuslims and is an independent review.

The Story of the Elephant pop-up book is truly unique. From its highly textured illustrations which draw the reader into the pages, to the pop-up features and interactive flaps and tabs, reading The Story of the Elephant takes you deep into the world of the year of the Prophet’s SAW birth, which is known as the Year of the Elephants.
This book brings to life the story of Abraha, the Yemeni king, and his plan to destroy the Ka’ba. The story is well known, however this book will open up the imagination of young readers and allow them to understand the story from an even younger age. By using such creative techniques, the author and illustrator have created a book, which can be used as a medium for deeper understanding of the issues that faced the Prophet’s SAW grandfather at that time. The miracles sent down by Allah, such as the kneeling elephant and the army of birds are recreated in a way that will amaze children.
Also included are a short quiz at the back of the book as well a lovely activity envelope which includes a map and a press-out Ka’ba and elephant army, which children can use to recreate the event; a unique way to reinforce the concepts learnt.

We absolutely love this book. It has fascinated my Little Muslims from the time we unpacked the boxes! Our favourite part – the kneeling elephant!!

  58. Learner 4 Life

    Absolutely Outstanding!!!
    25 July 2014
The first of it’s kind. A remarkable product which is not only a unique pop-up book of it’s kind but a whole project itself which brings the story to life. An excellent, fun and creative way of learning for children and adults alike. That’s the way forward. You surely won’t know what you are missing out on unless you own one yourself. A must-buy! It’s brings on big smiles on the readers faces.

  59. Kiran Rahim

I initially discovered this book at a course I attended recently. Even before I had gotten home I begged husband to order it NOW just in case it sold out!. The illustrations in here are beautiful, the colours vibrant and the pop up art is like no other pop up book we’ve ever used. I particularly love the dua hands…what a beautiful sentiment.

Although our baby boy is a few years from reading this, we as adults have immensely enjoyed reading it and using the different interfaces as the story unfolds. It is a JOY to read and discover each page, the pop up art, the flaps, the moving objects. The illustrations have so much depth, colour and vibrancy that one can almost imagine being in the middle of the arabian desert or under its starry sky.The interactive map and board at the end gives the reader another dimension to engage with and I can easily see this becoming a household favourite as families enact the story told!

I would have no hesitation is buying this for a friend or loved one!!
    A Job VERY WELL DONE!
We are both (and grandparents) suitably impressed and look forward (with eager excitement) for your next release!!
May your efforts grow and be rewarded abundantly!

An absolutely beautiful, carefully designed, and very inclusive book. We are always looking for the latest content and materials to help teach our children more about Islam and give them a good start in life, this book is a wonderful way to introduce the Quran to little ones from any background. My 3 year old loves his new bed time routine now and hasn’t failed to ask for his ‘Elephant Book’ once since it’s arrived 🙂 .. Honored to have been given the opportunity to be apart of your journey and can’t wait to see what Allah has in store for Shade7Publishing in the future inshAllah 🙂

A great introduction to the Quran the best guidance in the world to tease and to draw the child’s mind to discover the Quran in an interactive fun way………Inshallah through your book they will form an attachment to the Quran and will relate the story generations to come! Beautifully illustrated, the pictures are detailed. Love the pop up bird and Ka’aba the most!
Worth the wait, need to buy some more as presents!
It was an Eid present but I let my daughter have it as a Ramadan present instead, couldn’t wait to let her enjoy it.

When and what is the next one? Can’t wait. Well done Hajera and team!

The Story of the Elephant” is a knock-out and was my Iman’s favourite when she was younger and I think my Hiba reads it every single night lol

The Story of the Elephant will be a beautifully bright, opulent, exotic and inviting book which will be a joy for children and their parents alike. I cannot speak highly enough about the energy Hajera is bringing to this project and I am confident it will be a bold and striking piece of Islamic children’s publishing, yet with a reach able to embrace those from other faiths and none.

Honestly, it’s not often (though, alhamdulilah becoming more often) that an Islamic book can keep my 4 year old’s attention, and even less often that she will specifically ask for it. The Story of the Elephant breaks that pattern, and she asks to read it again and again.

I myself am not religious, but I find it extraordinary that religion has endured, and continues to. I want Daniel and Emma to understand the religious traditions that have such impact on our lives (even in terms of the basic calendar of Christian festivals) and have an understanding of other religions.” … The book itself is beautiful. It has some really lovely pop ups in it and Daniel is mesmerised by it….What I like about this book is that it is beautifully engaging and will certainly be a wonderful and simple introduction into learning about Islam for Daniel and Emma. Having this sort of book is really easy to use and I plan to read a bit more about the story of the elephant myself in preparation for some extended learning.

My son was busy in his room for ages playing by himself which is unusual for a 2.5 year old. I came in and he was playing with the elephant pictures. Jazakillah for such a good book, would love to see more similar ones as well.
